なんだか、ほかの会社はいつ自分の分野にグーグルが参入してくるのか、つねに怯えている状態ですね。

sweat, concerned that the potential for future investment gains have come to a halt because once Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) ventures into the online travel agency business, it’s only a matter of time
before it’s game over. Fortunately for these investors, there is nothing to worry about.
A recent article in Skift pointed to research completed by an investor group, which estimated that Google’s revenue from travel advertisers in 2016 is approximately $12.2 billion. About half of
that revenue comes from Expedia, TripAdvisor, Priceline, and Airbnb. Here's another way to look at this situation. Total revenue for Priceline in fiscal-year 2015 was $9.2 billion. Total FY2015
revenue for Expedia, Ctrip, and TripAdvisor was $6.7 billion, $1.7 billion, and $1.5 billion, respectively. If you haven’t done the math yet, the point is that Google generates massive revenue
from the online travel agencies. If Google were to launch its own online travel agency, then it would cannibalize its own reliable and high-margin revenue stream.

2016年の最近のデータでは、グーグルの旅行広告から得られた収入は122億ドルと推定される。そのうちの半分はエクスペディアやプライスライン、Airbnbから得られたものだ。別の見方もある。プライスラインの2015年の全収入は92億ドルだった。エクスペディアは67億ドル、Ctripは17億ドル、トリップアドバイザーは15億ドルだった。もしまだ計算が追いついていないのなら、要点としては、グーグルはオンライン旅行エージェントから大きな収入を得ているということだ。もし、グーグルが独自のオンライン・旅行エージェントを立ち上げるとすると、それは安定した高収益の流れを共食いするようなものなのだ。
